Welcome to the IndiNature Mill!

A new Mill for a new era of cleantech and climate change mitigation has opened in the Scottish Borders, to manufacture bio-based construction materials made with industrial hemp and crops from local farms.

Following years of research, and several successful funding rounds, IndiNature is now beginning manufacture of sustainable construction insulation on an industrial scale.

The IndiNature Mill is now open, the UK’s first dedicated natural fibre insulation mill, based in the Scottish Borders.

The first product off the line – IndiTherm – is a flexible thermal insulation batt made from industrial hemp sourced from farms in the UK. Unlike conventional insulation materials, it helps tackle climate change by having a net capture of carbon. IndiTherm by IndiNature is the company’s first product and is now available from merchants throughout the UK.

While working in community development and witnessing first-hand poor housing conditions, IndiNature’s CEO and Co-founder Scott Simpson was motivated to improve the health of people and the planet by focusing on creating a sustainable built environment, marking the beginning of IndiNature.

Scott said: “We’re delighted to finally have the ability to manufacture carbon negative and healthy insulation at scale for the future, drawing on traditional crops and building techniques.

“The world needs more sustainable construction materials like IndiTherm, with breathability to preserve buildings and create healthy indoor air quality reducing damp and mould, and that are great to work with and healthy for installers.

A skilled team has come together to establish the new IndiNature Mill, drawing on the manufacturing and textiles heritage of the Borders. Everyone has worked incredibly hard to get things up and running, and we’re now excited to be able to supply!”

IndiTherm flexible insulation batts are just the beginning of the journey for IndiNature, as the company continues to develop and manufacture new insulation products, with thermal acoustic boards and its full IndiBreathe system to be launched in 2023.
