Let's aim for Zero Carbon Scotland! Time to regulate embodied carbon and environmental impact of materials.

February 8, 2017

Scotland has exceeded its 40% GHG emissions reductions target but there's still much more to do. Our response to the Climate Change Plan Draft consultation included these key points:

1. Policy and Building Regs should include embodied carbon accounting of materials (not merely operational carbon).

2. In the rush for energy efficiency, conventional insulation materials have had a negative environmental impact. Policy and Building Regs should ensure construction materials are sustainable.

3. A new Climate Change Bill might aim to reduce GHG emissions by "more than 50%". Let's aim for a Zero Carbon Scotland! We already have the technologies and knowledge but we need more political will to enforce - and support - change rapidly. See the Zero Carbon Britain report.
