£25/yr for heating your home? In Darmstadt for Passivhaus training.

November 11, 2017

That's our Technical Director Euan in front of the world's original Passivhaus.

Passivhaus is the world's top energy standard - essentially you should be able to heat a building with incidental heat from your body and cooking and solar gain. A UK heating bill could be as low as £25/yr (BRE). There are over 30,000 Passivhaus buildings including a hospital in Frankfurt.

Euan's already been designing Passivhauses here in Scotland and has now completed two very intense weeks of training in Germany.

The key is intelligent design, attention to detailing and high airtightness - but you actually end up with better air quality because MVHR (mechanically ventilated heat recovery) not only removes stale air without heat loss, it filters incoming air which in a city can be filled with pollutants.

And if you combine Passivhaus with smart, ecological materials like ours, you have an even higher performing, lower carbon and healthier building due to the natural passive regulation of both heat and humidity. Plus with our materials and system you don't have to buy the very expensive and unsustainable plastic membranes and tapes used on most Passivhauses. These are the healthiest, most ecological buildings with the lowest energy costs. Why build any other way?
