Second production line launched for the growing natural fibre market
We have unique capability in Britain to meet our increasing customer demand for natural fibre products across construction and other markets.
Operations Director Graeme Purves and CTO/Founder Scott Simpson with a customer’s hemp and sheepswool product fresh off the new line.
Customers have been asking us for a range of thin felted products made from low carbon natural fibres across sectors including:
🏠 construction (acoustic underfloor rolls & composite cladding)
😴 bedding & furnishings
🔊 acoustics
🌱 agricultural ground control (weed suppression and frost cover)
🚗 composites
Our new carding, crosslapping and needle loom line allows us to make super thin lightweight matts from 1mm and 80gsm (grams per square meter) all the way up to 30mm and 1500gsm. We fitted it with highly specialised needles and carding wire specifically to process natural fibres such as sheeps wool, cotton and tough bast fibres like hemp and flax. With no need for thermobonding, these matts are 100% natural fibre. As you can see, it’s making very beautiful and consistent materials for our new customers already !
This now complements our airlay and thermobonding line which is increasingly busy with all the hemp insulation orders – with thicknesses up to 200mm.
Keeping an eye on quality
We pride ourselves on high quality - here you can see the consistent crosslapped layers of a customer’s wool product before it enters the needle loom.
What we’re finding is there is an increasing demand from many sectors for healthy and low carbon natural fibre products which actually outperform synthetic materials in many ways. That’s why we founded IndiNature – to maximise positive impacts on health, carbon and the environment.
It helps that we continue to specialise in the very demanding construction sector because we now have exceptionally high quality control standards in place including a thermal and fire testing lab on site, the rigorous BBA (British Board of Agrement) certification and ISO 9001.
A very big thank you to Zero Waste Scotland for contributing funding for this new line and to The Scottish National Investment Bank for backing IndiNature as our sales grow month on month. And massive thanks to the entire Indi team and engineers from Befama.
We’re IndiNature – specialists in natural fibre non-wovens in construction … and more!
